Available on DVD and Blu-ray from PBS Distribution January 6th

Arlington, VA. – December 5, 2014 – PBSDistribution announced today it is releasing “SACRED JOURNEYS WITH BRUCE FEILER” on DVD and Blu-ray January 6. Sacred journeys are as old as religion, yet as new as anyone who takes a step and asks, “What do I believe?” Today, religion is more challenged than ever, yet pilgrimages are more popular than ever. Join host Bruce Feiler on an unprecedented journey to the world’s most meaningful landscapes and rigorous religious pilgrimages – all undertaken in one remarkable year. Viewers travel around the globe to walk with Feiler and contemporary sojourners as they follow six journeys to sacred sites cherished by billions and visited annually by hundreds of millions of pilgrims. The 6-part series, epic in scope, spans several continents to open a fascinating window into the human quest and takes viewers through history and across the world on a faith exploration.

SACRED JOURNEYS WITH BRUCE FEILER” will be available on DVD and Blu-ray January 6, 2015. The run time of the program is approximately 360 minutes on two discs. The DVD SRP is $34.99 and the Blu-ray SRP is $39.99.

“The most common theme in religion today is that everyone is on a journey,” says Bruce Feiler, bestselling author, scholar, adventurer, and explorer extraordinaire. “In this series, we have a chance to experience that firsthand, and we invite viewers to ask their own questions as they travel with others to some of the holiest spots on earth. Religion, in many ways, is about the interplay of past and present. Journeys like this help keep that conversation alive. I believe anyone watching this series will want to book their own pilgrimage immediately.”

Today’s seekers travel many of the same routes, visit the same sites, and enact many of the same rituals that people have for hundreds of years. Last year, 200 million people around the world set out to visit a shrine, a temple or other holy site. These are people from every walk of life, looking for meaning, trying to gain deeper understanding of life or to make a connection with their own religious history. Viewers will be inspired by these pilgrims as they share their deepest thoughts about why they’ve embarked on these journeys and what they experience along the way. In the end, viewers will understand the powerful connection between the travelers who take these journeys today, and those who did so long before.

Each episode follows modern day pilgrims, on a private spiritual journey. Viewers are transported around the world to unique landscapes, exploring different belief systems and traditions. The “SACRED JOURNEYS WITH BRUCE FEILER” series  presents a comprehensive picture of the practice of pilgrimage in its varied expressions around the globe, over thousands of years:

  • Allahabad, India – pilgrims gather to purify themselves on the banks of the Ganges at Kumbh Mela
  • Shikoku, Japan – pilgrims walk an 870-mile trail, visiting 88-temples
  • Lourdes, France – wounded warriors seek healing in the waters of Lourdes
  • Osogbo, Nigeria – pilgrims attend an annual festival celebrating the Yoruba Goddess Osun
  • Jerusalem, Israel – pilgrims pray in the most sacred city in the world
  • Mecca, Saudi Arabia – pilgrims journey to the Hajj

During these six breathtaking journeys, viewers travel alongside contemporary seekers as they explore dramatic locations, fascinating history and deeply held religious traditions by setting out on the same profound journeys that people have taken for a thousand years.

SACRED JOURNEYS WITH BRUCE FEILER” is replete with deeply personal stories and deeply moving encounters with sacred traditions. This program promises to be a dynamic event for a time when so many are looking for purpose and meaning in their lives and in the world around them.
